{"id":371,"date":"2012-08-19T02:33:57","date_gmt":"2012-08-19T02:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/?p=371"},"modified":"2012-08-19T02:57:19","modified_gmt":"2012-08-19T02:57:19","slug":"14-notebooks-up-and-running-ubuntu-gnu-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/?p=371","title":{"rendered":"14 notebooks up and running Ubuntu GNU-Linux!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today was a really great day (Saturday 2012.8.18).\u00a0 Two volunteers by the name of Maestro and James Ouyang (@jyouyang) came to the Creative Arts Charter School today to help get the school ready for the start of the new school year on Monday, 2012.8.20.\u00a0 Together, we were able to manually install 14 of 19 notebook computers with Ubuntu GNU-Linux 12.04.\u00a0 This means that two kids will collaborate on each machine, as there are 28 kids per class session in the classroom of Maria Jenerik, who teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies.\u00a0 There are an additional 3 working desktop computers in Maria&#8217;s classroom for a total of 17 working machines.\u00a0 Here is a shot of the notebook computers stacked on a cart ready to go for Monday:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_372\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/2012-08-18_18-45-49_97.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-372\" class=\" wp-image-372 \" src=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/2012-08-18_18-45-49_97-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"Notebooks on a cart\" width=\"614\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/2012-08-18_18-45-49_97-1024x577.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/2012-08-18_18-45-49_97-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-372\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">19 notebook computers donated by Intuit, 14 of which are now installed with Ubuntu Linux!\u00a0 Thanks Intuit!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These computers were donated to Partimus by <a title=\"Intuit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.intuit.com\/\">Intuit<\/a>, so many thanks to Intuit for that!\u00a0 More details about the Intuit donation can be read <a title=\"unboxing\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/?p=347\">here<\/a> and <a title=\"30 hours\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/?p=357\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 This donation is going to make a big difference for Maria Jenerik&#8217;s classroom, because there was a <a title=\"fire\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/?p=159\">fire in one of the buildings<\/a> housing the Creative Arts Charter School, so <a title=\"long burning fire\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.partimus.org\/?p=285\">space is at a premium<\/a> at the Creative Arts school.\u00a0 Thanks to Jim Stockford of <a title=\"systemateka\" href=\"http:\/\/systemateka.com\/\">Systemateka<\/a> for introducing Partimus Board member Christian Einfeldt to Steve Camuti of Intuit.\u00a0 Steve orchestrated the donation through the halls of Intuit.<\/p>\n<p>Today we put in 17 hours of work installing Ubuntu on those 14 computers;
